Scope
Newcastle Airport has seen sustained growth in passenger numbers over recent years and has implemented a strategic 20-year masterplan for the airport site. This masterplan forecasts that passenger growth will continue and sets out the direction for the development of the airport infrastructure that will be required to support such growth.
Newcastle Airport requires an upgrade to accommodate increased Code C and long-range Code E aircraft. This economic stimulus would be realised through international airfreight and associated industrial expansion, together with increased passenger tourism traffic.
The project includes both an upgrade to the runway, which is owned by and will be designed and delivered by Defence, and upgrades to Newcastle Airport’s terminals, and passenger processing facilities, aircraft aprons, car parking, pedestrian forecourt, and utilities and services infrastructure which is being delivered by Construction Control as the Managing Contractor.
Key Considerations
The aim of terminal expansion project is to deliver the infrastructure to meet the forecast passenger growth and/or to respond to commercial opportunities (i.e. additional flights) forecast to be implemented for the next 10 years. To facilitate the expansion of the Terminal Building, the existing Premium Carpark has been relocated to the north-west into the existing Short Stay Carpark 1 under Construction Control’s engagement to deliver the Enabling Works project.
